Best eSIM for Switzerland

Switzerland has excellent coverage on all three networks — Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt — even in many Alpine valleys and on mountain railways. The catch is that Switzerland isn't in the EU, so some "Europe" eSIM plans leave it out. Check before you buy.

At a glance

  • Budget pick: Talisim — $8.56 for 10 GB / 30 days on Sunrise and Salt, less than half what Nomad ($20.50) and Airalo ($23) charge
  • Best for Switzerland plus neighbours: Airalo Eurolink — includes Switzerland, so it covers trips that cross into France, Italy, Germany or Austria
  • Best for unlimited data: Holafly Switzerland — from $27.50 for 7 days, but hotspot is capped at about 500 MB–1 GB a day

Provider Price Networks
Talisim $8.56 Sunrise, Salt

Airalo $23.00 Sunrise

Holafly sells unlimited data instead: $27.50 for 7 days or $51.50 for 15 days.

Network notes

Swisscom has the widest coverage, especially high in the Alps and in remote valleys. Sunrise is close behind and strong on 5G. Salt is good in towns and along main routes but has a few more gaps in the mountains.

None of the plans we checked use Swisscom: Talisim and Nomad run on Sunrise and Salt, and Airalo on Sunrise alone. You’ll have signal in Zermatt, Grindelwald, Interlaken, St. Moritz and on the main mountain railways. Remote hiking huts and high passes are where Swisscom’s extra coverage shows.

Practical connectivity tips

  • Install before you land. Zurich and Geneva airports have free Wi-Fi, but you’ll want data to buy train tickets on the go.
  • Apps you’ll want online: SBB Mobile (trains, buses and boats, and the Swiss Travel Pass), MeteoSwiss (weather and avalanche warnings), White Risk (avalanche bulletins for skiers), Uber in the big cities, and Google Maps.
  • Mountain railways: the Gotthard base tunnel has 4G all the way through, and most panoramic trains have coverage too. Older tunnels on branch lines may not.

Watch out for

  • “Europe” plans that exclude Switzerland. Many cover only EU countries. Read the country list before you pay.
  • Roaming over the border. Near Geneva, Basel and Lake Lugano your phone can connect to a French, German or Italian network. If your plan is Switzerland-only, that can stop your data.
  • Liechtenstein uses its own networks. It’s in the EEA, so many Europe plans, including Airalo’s Eurolink, include it, but Switzerland-only plans may not.
