Best eSIM for Peru

Peru's main networks — Claro, Movistar, Entel and Bitel — cover Lima, Cusco, Arequipa and the main tourist routes. Coverage drops on the Inca Trail, in the Colca Canyon and across much of the Amazon. Travel eSIMs cost more here than in Europe or Asia, so compare before you buy.

Network notes

Claro and Movistar have the widest coverage, including more of the Andes. Entel is strong in Lima and other cities. Bitel is the newest network.

Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Aguas Calientes have signal on the main networks. The Inca Trail itself, the Salkantay trek and Rainbow Mountain are mostly out of coverage.

Practical connectivity tips

  • Install before you land. You’ll want data for a ride from Lima airport.
  • Apps you’ll want online: Uber, Cabify, inDrive and DiDi (rides), WhatsApp (tour operators and hotels use it), PeruRail and Inca Rail (Machu Picchu trains), and Google Maps.
  • Download your Machu Picchu tickets and train tickets before you head up. Signal at the site itself is unreliable.
  • Altitude and cold drain phone batteries faster. Bring a power bank.

Watch out for

  • Treks and the Amazon have long stretches without signal. Tell someone your route.
  • Lake Titicaca’s islands have weak coverage.
  • Crossing into Bolivia at Lake Titicaca needs a plan that covers Bolivia too.
